Invisalign® – Clear Braces to Fix Crooked Teeth

If you’re thinking about improving your smile, you’re not alone. Research shows that crooked teeth top the list of facial features most people would like to improve.

Invisalign® clear braces are the alternative to traditional braces and can help you achieve a straighter smile. Invisalign® uses a set of clear, custom-made aligners which work by gradually moving your teeth into their desired position.

A smile communicates happiness and is an important indicator of an individual’s self-confidence and approachability. Invisalign® can help you achieve the dream smile you’ve always wanted, without the use of unsightly traditional fixed braces. If you’re not smiling because of your teeth, today’s the day to do something about it.

How Does Invisalign® Work?

Invisalign® are a set of custom-fitted and virtually invisible plastic aligners that you wear over your teeth. The Invisalign® treatment is used to treat overcrowding, spaced teeth, gapped teeth, overbites, underbites, crossbites, open bites and deep bites. They are comfortable to wear, and unlike traditional braces, are easy to remove and have no metal brackets to attach or wires to tighten.

To find out if you are suitable for Invisalign®, you will require an initial consultation with the Cambridge City Dental team. At this appointment, we will discuss your current smile and what results you will be able to achieve. If you are a suitable candidate for Invisalign®, we will create a treatment plan with your goals in mind.

At your second appointment, we will take photographs and impressions of your current smile. These will be sent off and digitised into a 3D image (ClinCheck®). This 3D imaging technology will allow us to depict the precise series of movements required for your Invisalign® treatment.

Once you have agreed to the proposed treatment plan, your set of customised Invisalign® aligners will be produced. Each aligner will be slightly different, moving your teeth gradually into their desired final position.

In order to see the results, an Invisalign® aligner must be worn for at least 22 hours a day. Each new aligner set also has to be worn for a two-week period before being switched to the next set. Once your Invisalign® treatment has begun, you will need to schedule regular appointments with your dentist to ensure that everything is going according to plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Invisalign® Painful?
Most people will experience temporary, minor discomfort at the beginning of each new stage of treatment. This feeling is only a short-term effect and is perfectly normal.

Will Invisalign® Affect My Speech?
Like all orthodontic treatments, the aligners may affect your speech temporarily. As your tongue gets used to having the aligners in your mouth, any lisp or minor speed impediment will disappear within a day or two.

Is Invisalign® Covered By Insurance?
If your policy has orthodontic coverage, this should be covered to a similar extent as conventional braces. As medical benefits differ significantly from policy to policy, you should check with your health fund as to what benefit will be received. Your dentist will provide you with a quote – this quite can be given to your health fund provider to determine your rebate.

How Much Does Invisalign® Cost?
In most instances, Invisalign® is comparable in total cost and treatment time to traditional braces. However, as with other medical treatments, only your dentist will be able to determine the exact cost based on your individual orthodontic needs. Other factors that may influence time and cost is your treatment goals, the difficulty of your treatment, how long you are in treatment, and your orthodontic insurance coverage. In Australia, the average Invisalign® cost ranges from $6,000 to $10,000. Average treatment time is between 12 to 14 months, however, it can vary from anywhere between six months to two years.

When Can I Remove My Invisalign® Aligner?
Invisalign® aligners are only to be removed when eating, drinking, brushing and flossing.

What is the Minimum Age for Invisalign®?
Almost any teenager over the age of 14 is eligible for Invisalign®, given that their second and 12-year-old molars have fully erupted.
